On behalf of our client, we are seeking a detail-oriented Fire & Life Safety Coordinator to join their team. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance, preparedness, and safety.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections and maintenance coordination for all fire protection and life safety systems (alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal fire codes, health and safety regulations, and company standards.
  • Oversee the scheduling and delivery of emergency response training, fire drills, and evacuation procedures.
  • Collaborate with contractors to ensure proper servicing, testing, and documentation of life safety systems.
  • Act as the point of contact for fire code compliance, emergency authority engagement, and internal safety audits.
  • Review technical drawings and construction plans for code compliance.
  • Support the Joint Health & Safety Committee with hazard assessments, incident investigations, and inspections.
  • Maintain and administer emergency response plans, fire safety plans, and internal reporting systems.
  • Participate in tabletop exercises and mock drills to test emergency readiness.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Diploma or certificate in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a fire safety or occupational safety role.
  • CFAA certification or in-progress is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes and standards, building operations, and fire safety systems.
  • Experience with CMMS systems is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong project planning, communication, and record-keeping skills.
  • Confident delivering training sessions and conducting public presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Working Condition:

  • Office-based with regular site walkthroughs, including stairwells and mechanical areas.
  • May require participation in emergency on-call rotations.
  • Occasional travel within Alberta for training or inter-site collaboration.

Education:

  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

Experience:

  • fire safety: 3 years (preferred)
  • occupational safety: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (preferred)
